Bettercoal Workshop for Suppliers - Moscow
The “Bettercoal Workshop for Suppliers” Series started in March this year in Katowice, Poland and continued on the 28th of September in Moscow, Russia.
The most recent workshop was an opportunity for Bettercoal Members (ENGIE, Fortum, Uniper, RWE and Vattenfall) and coal mining companies from Russia and Kazakhstan to take part in an informative session about the Bettercoal initiative and the Bettercoal Assessment Program.
There were representatives from the following coal companies: Kuzbassrazrezugol Coal Company JSC, SUEK, Open-Pit Mine Arshanovsky, RUTEK, Taldinskaya Fuel & Energy Company CJSC, KAPROBEN Handels and Gamma LLP.
“Bringing together coal suppliers and coal buyers in a workshop setting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss mutual interests, particularly regarding social and environmental performance in the coal supply chain,” said Martin Christie, Executive Director of Bettercoal. “Our Members underlined their expectations around the need for robust supply chain due diligence and stated that they wish to use the Bettercoal Assessment Program to achieve this as it results in an efficient process for all parties.”
The objectives of the workshop were firstly, to create a suitable environment for an open debate about the requirements and benefits of engaging in the Bettercoal Assessment Program and secondly, to learn from companies like Kuzbassrazrezugol JSC about their experience of being the first Russian coal company to complete a Self- and Site-Assessment with Bettercoal.
As a result of the gathering in Moscow, Bettercoal is now welcoming new suppliers into the Bettercoal Assessment Program, while also continuing and supporting Russian coal companies that are already at an advanced stage in the Assessment Program.
